Teaching Excellence Through the Arts

“The services that KEEP provides allow our students to strengthen their educational needs while providing them a chance to become involved in the arts. Our classroom teachers have enjoyed watching their student’s self-esteem grow every week. The lessons on responsibility and cooperation have allowed the students to learn to work as a team. This dance program is definitely a vehicle for teaching positive self-image, as well as cognitive and social skills, to our students.”

“I like KEEP because I learned to respect others and work as a team. It helped me at school because I learned to be more responsible and bring my homework.”
     Daniel, age 12, 2007

“Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to experience the joy that only dance and music can bring. They are forever changed because of Kids Excel El Paso’s classes. KEEP us dancing!”
     Rebecca Mares
     Bilingual Teacher--Roosevelt, 2005
“As the famous author Pearl Buck said, ‘The secret of joy in work is contained in one word—excellence.’ To know how to do something well is to enjoy it. Our KEEP teachers have taught us excellence in dance as well as in life. Thank you for giving us this unforgettable gift!”
     Zayecksy, age 11, 2006

“Every Friday the children were energized, as well as me, their teacher. The rapport between instructors and students was full of respect and caring. My students feel a close bond to these instructors. The skills my students learned are priceless. I constantly reinforce the lessons KEEP teaches on excellence, never giving up, supporting each other, the art of listening and following directions, and not being afraid to try new things. I learned skills as well. KEEP definitely teaches social behaviors and values. My students learned that they all need to do well in order for the group to succeed. They learned to cheer for one another and to encourage those having difficulty learning their steps. It was all a very positive and thrilling learning experience.”

     Classroom Teacher--Zavala, 2006
“As a teacher and a parent, I can attest to the positive benefits of the KEEP program. I was VERY skeptical at first. I’m a male teacher and my son was going to be doing the program. I didn’t quite like the idea of my kids learning ‘dance’ for 45 minutes a week. However, after sitting in on every practice and watching the rehearsals and the final performances, I can’t properly express how much I appreciate the program. I love the people involved and the smiles on all of the students' faces after each practice. The students always came from practice refreshed and ready to work. I had the best TAKS scores I’ve ever had last year (the first year of the program at our school). I feel that having this program was a factor in that. All fourth graders need to experience this wonderful program. There is not one thing negative about this program. All logistical aspects are handled by the Kids Excel staff. What they bring to any educational organization adds positive ‘vibes’ to all involved. To not be able to say anything negative about this program is THE perfect reason to make it a part of every campus.”
