Isela was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico. In 2002 she began seriously studying dance under the training of Debra Knapp at New Mexico State University. She acquired a degree in Foreign Languages, Secondary Education with a minor in Dance and Counseling in Education Psychology (CEP). She studied modern dance, flamenco, and jazz till she graduated from NMSU in 2007. During her college years, Isela worked with children of all ages. She was a pre-school teacher’s aid for two years and a student teacher in high school for one year. Isela ran a dance workshop at White Sands for children at the base in the summer of 2007. She is a certified aerobics instructor and is currently teaching aerobics at the YMCA to people of all ages. She practices the afro-Brazilian art form, Capoeira, and plays soccer on the weekends. Kids Excel has shown her how to use her many and various acquired talents, and she has finally found a career where all of her passions find an exciting outlet. Isela is happy to be working with KEEP, where the children’s efforts, talent, and artistry have captured her heart day by day.
