Teaching Excellence Through the Arts

Sōndra received her B.S. in Psychology and M.A.T. in Elementary Education from Howard University, and her M.B.A. in International Business from the University of Baltimore.

Her rich background of experiences includes owning an interior design company, researching and writing history textbooks for elementary education, and designing, knitting and selling “extraordinary ordinaries”—a line of decorative accessories, such as bookmarks, eyeglass cases, and face cloths. For six years previous to moving to El Paso, Sōndra was a counselor at a private elementary school in Baltimore, where she taught ethnic dance, sewing and knitting. Since moving to El Paso two years ago, Sōndra has taught modern and ethnic dance, drama, and creative writing in pre-k and elementary schools in the Ysleta school district, and knitting at a local women’s shelter. Her previous volunteer work in Maryland includes serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for St. Paul’s School, creating and presenting liturgical dances at churches and prison facilities, and directing a dance ministry program. Sōndra’s strong dance and arts education background drew her to the mission and work of Kids Excel El Paso, where she is a staunch advocate for the organization’s vision of teaching excellence through the arts.
